FIRST EDITION, 1967 This part folk art/ part cocktail book was compiled and edited by Lyons and Helms and published by Ma Leck industries in 1967 and is chock-full of delicious cocktail recipes, amusing illustrations and charming details. Thick paint illustrated wooden boards with brass hinges and leather ties adorn the outside of this clever cocktail guide, along with patterned glassine before the title page. There are sections on Bar Equipment, A Glassware Chart and Mixing Tips, as well as hundreds of cocktail recipes, many accompanied by witty black and white illustrations. Ma Leck Woodcrafts was started in 1953 in Wingate, North Carolina by Lester “Leck” Helms, one of the authors of this book. Good Mixers highlights products in the book available where Ma Leck items are sold and was most likely produced as a marketing tool. Overall in pretty good condition with some water staining to the bottom of the pages, causing some rippling to pages and glassine. Good Mixers, Compiled and Edited by Lyon and Helms. Published by Ma Leck Industries, 1967. First edition, octavo, thick painted wooden boards with brass hinges and leather ties with some wear, patterned glassine and 47 pages show water staining at bottom with light rippling. Since not everyone could make it out to see us in Paris on Sunday night, we decided to share one of our favorite recipes from the night’s festivities here. This one is a great nightcap & is a perfect way to close the palate for those out of us who prefer to drink our dessert instead of eating it. It is garnished with freshly grated cinnamon that is resting over a bed of cream. HOMEMADE RUM FLAVOUR SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE A HOLIDAY GIFT TO ALL MY FOLLOWERS AND FANS 🎁 ingredients * 1/2 cup Water * 2 cups Sugar * 1 cup warm Heavy Cream * 4 tablespoons Butter (room temperature) * 2 teaspoons coarse Sea Salt instructions * Combine water and sugar in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir only until combined. * For the rest of the cooking process, do not stir. You will be tempted but patience is the key 🔑 😂 cooking caramel sauce several different ways and this is a no-fail process for me. * Cook until it becomes a deep amber color, anywhere from 12-15 minutes. Watch closely once the sugar mixture turns to a light brown color. It can get away from you and burn quite quickly after this stage. * While the sugar and water are cooking, warm the cream in the microwave. * Remove the pan from the heat and add the warmed heavy cream. Make sure it is not cold or it will cause the caramel to harden. * Be careful because the caramel will bubble and sputter up the sides of the pan. Whisk vigorously for about 1 minute. Add the butter and salt. Whisk until it is completely combined. * Set aside to cool.
