I had cramps, stabbing pains and bloating anytime I ate something....So while I “ate my way through Italy” with ease for being #celiac #glutenfree #lactosefree - the jet lag, traveling, and different schedule was NOT easy on my #irritablebowelsyndrome and neither was the lack of public bathrooms. Seriously Italy, where the toilets at 😂 (McDonalds and paying places a 💶 euro became my go to) BUT DESPITE PAIN AND BEING UNCOMFORTABLE - I wasn’t going to let my condition control our trip, I STILL had the time of my life! When I think of our trip, I don’t even associate it with a flare up - about six days into the trip, the daily pain, cramps and bloating subsided but if I’m keeping it real, my #intestines were off the entire time 💩 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🧻 😂. 💦Let’s talk HYDRATION: Did you know WATER is the most common nutritional deficiency in the American population? ☀️Here are some reasons why hydration important, and some tips to help! 👇🏻 💧Water is needed to carry toxins out of your body. It’s a good thing that you’ll pee more when you increase your consumption. 💧Water is an important factor in transporting nutrients to cells throughout your entire body! 💧It cushions your bones and joints 💧helps to regulate your body temperature 💧Your body’s healing processes are heavily dependent on water! 💧Chronic dehydration causes brain cells to shrink (think like a plum becoming a prune) and they begin to lose their function. Prolonged dehydration is believed to be a factor in the development of Alzheimer’s disease. 🥴 Signs you are dehydrated: Fatigue, anxiety, irritability, depression, cravings, cramps, headaches, heartburn, joint pain, back pain, constipation. 👇🏻 1️⃣Start the day with 10oz of room temperature water. Before anything else! 2️⃣Aim for ½ your body weight in ounces per day. 3️⃣Flavor. I am not someone who likes plain water. I like to have a little flavor! So pictured here are a few of my favorites when it comes to tasty drinks that hydrate but aren’t filled with sugar, chemicals, dyes or other questionable ingredients. You could also just add some fresh fruit or essential oils to your water. Citrus oils are my favorite for this purpose! 4️⃣Carry around a fun water bottle! You can’t stay hydrated if you don’t have water with you. 5️⃣Don’t forget your little ones. My little guy loves this lightning McQueen bottle and it helps him to drink more! 6️⃣Add some electrolytes. Are you drinking enough water but still feel tired, thirsty or otherwise just “off?” You could be diluting your minerals. Add some electrolyte powder to your water or try some coconut water or one of the Nooma electrolyte drinks and see if that helps! You could also just add some salt and lemon to your water bottle. 7️⃣Remember to space out your water consumption away from your meals. Too much water with your meal will dilute your stomach acid and impair digestion. 8️⃣experiment with temperature cold vs room temp!

El jengibre (Zingiber officinale) es una planta cuyo rizoma (parte subterránea de la planta) se utiliza como alimento y especia en la cocina, y en la realización de un extracto seco para la elaboración de suplementos naturales. El jengibre contiene diversos principios activos (gingerol, shogaol,...), aceites esenciales y otras substancias como ácidos grasos, minerales,... que le otorgan sus propiedades beneficiosas para el organismo. So a few have asked about my ‘golden milk’ from my story last night and I thought I’d share my recipe and some info on this, this morning 😊✨ It’s so simple, add cup almond milk (or milk of choice), 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric or grated fresh if you have it!, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, few slices of fresh ginger, stir and simmer for 6 minutes, sieve and serve mixing in some maple syrup to sweeten. As a vata type in Ayurveda, my inner body loves warmth and I find this drink deeply nourishing, calming and soothing before bedtime. The key ingredients used are packed with antioxidants, and anti inflammatory to help with joint pain which I’m currently experiencing. Turmeric is also a natural mood booster and this drink really helps to improve digestion overall too. IBS & Exercise - Whats the link? We all know that physical exercise is an extremely important part of living a healthy, balanced life. This includes maintaining a healthy digestive system. Medical research indicates that moderate exercise has the potential to prevent inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and to improve gut barrier function (leaky gut). But, gut distress, such as cramping, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting and GI pain are common among athletes during competition and training. When it comes to exercise, more is not always better. Too strenuous exercise is linked to dysregulated cortisol (stress hormone), immune system suppression (around 80% of the immune system is in the gut) and intestinal hyperpermeability (leaky gut). None of which are good for IBS sufferers.
