Something which years of dieting taught me was my body was not to be trusted. I couldn’t listen to my hunger as it was wrong. I couldn’t trust anything within my body whether it be a feeling or emotion as it was wrong. . Something which was indirectly affected by choosing to not listen to my body for 14 years was I forgot have to listen to my inner wisdom, and not just around food but in life. Our intuition is EVERYTHING!! . It took some time to repair that connection and it’s still something I am actively fine tuning all the time. . If something feels ‘off’ I listen If someone feels ‘off’ I listen If a situation feels ‘off’ I listen . No judgement. I simply choose to rely on my inner wisdom than my head and certainly above and beyond any kind of rules I think I should be following. . It’s not always easy to say no to something which logically makes no sense or to say yes to something which equally seems the wrong thing to do but over the years I’ve trusted myself more than ever before. . It’s been a big part to healing my relationship with food and my body and something I focus on heavily with my clients. . So gorgeous, do you trust your intuition??? 🤔🤔 . #beatingbingeeating #bingeeating #stopbingeeating #bingeeatingdisorder #bingeeatinghelp #foodfreedomcoach #healthcoach #emotionaleating #eatingdisorder #soulfedwoman #BEDA #healthynotskinny #eattolive #Diet #WeightLoss #antidiet #foodfreedom #foodfreedomforever #thehungrysoulbook

I don't judge those who want to lose weight. I believe in complete body autonomy. I believe in questioning WHY you want to lose weight? Who told you you needed to? Who told you 'but HeaLth Tho'? Who said you need to look a certain way? Who defined what size, what shape, is superior? Do I think it's OK to want to lose weight if it genuinely improves the quality of your life? Absolutely. Do I think health looks a certain way? No. Do I think your "health" is my business? Definitely not. You owe no one 'health'. And finally, would I feel the same way if I were in a different body? We won't know. Which is why I believe in complete body autonomy. And which, above all, is why I keep 'body acceptance' and diet chat posts limited on my page. I don't have the experience. - @balanced_nat

In my experience, restrictive diets which significantly reduce calories and eliminate food groups are not sustainable and lead to binge eating, cheating, and yo-yo dieting. This leads to feelings of guilt, / self-punishment, resulting in a very unhealthy relationship with food and ones body image. Eating a sustainable & balanced diet is more likely to lead to success 👏🏽🙌🏽 For me, flexible dieting has transformed what I eat and how I eat. I can eat out even when I’m on a fat loss program with my family & friends, I don’t ban the foods I love- if I have a craving I know I CAN and I have a healthy relationship with food. I used to ban ALL the CARBS other than 30g oats per day, fruit, dairy, sugar, gluten... I would eat strict for 3-4 days and then binge, Then start again. I had terrible skin, terrible energy, terrible self esteem and I was scared to eat out if it wasn’t cheat meal day. 🤯 I thought if I could just knuckle down for like 6 weeks of hell, I would get super ripped and then I would be happy and could relax. Problem was I couldn’t stick with the plan much longer than 4 days because it was stupidly strict. Stop searching for the QUICK FIX 🙅🏼‍♀️ Instead focus on a long term solution that can be incorporated into your lifestyle for the long term. THEY SUPPORT US NO MATTER WHAT, BUT SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA TRUST YOUR INTUITION. Parents. Our angels, our gurdians, our lifetime guides. They see the best in us and always protects us. No matter what. But sometimes they cannot see through that protecting veil of our potential. This photo shows my 12th birthday. Mum was already sick. But she did everything she could to make us happy. Hence me as a princess arriving on a horseback :D Here I still trusted my mum that she knows the best. Why wouldn’t she? Just a few years later. When I was about to make a huge decision about which college I will go to, mum had a different opinion than me. I decided I wanted to take on a high path of prestige college no matter her advice. I felt in my gut that there is where I am supposed to be. Mum had tried to talk me out of it to protect me from failing the entry exams. Now I understand why. She didn’t want to see me fail and hurt. Well, there I didn't listen. I studied hard for my exams. I studied for months. Mainly because I wanted to show my mum that I was worthy and smart enough to pass and get in. At the day of exams, I remember this like it was just yesterday, I had this huge knot in my tummy, all of the sudden not knowing what I am doing. But also knowing that she is there for me regardless of what happens. Next weeks were painful. Waiting for the results. Then the day came. The nerves were horrible. I and my Grandmother walked into the college to see if I got in or not. I couldn't find my name on a list the first time. Maybe because I was looking only into the "under the line". But I was there. Not at the top of the list, but I got in. All because I trusted my intuition. I knew mum will be proud but my biggest lesson I learned that day was that no matter what others say if you trust yourself and do everything you can to succeed, You will. Don't underestimate your inner wisdom just because they say otherwise. Do you have an experience like this? Memory, when you knew deep down, that this is it, even others didn't see that in you? Can you relate? #foodfreedom #food #foodfree #selflove

One of my aunts saw this picture on my whatsapp status yesterday and she had to enquire -"can we eat rusks" - "i took them out of my trolley after the seminar" - "which ones do YOU buy?" Now i know that loads of new information can be confusing and also leave u feeling overwhelmed. I also know that for many people who want to change the way they eat for health reasons, that u might b scared to just take the leap and start.  This is the reason i do the 30 day challenges. I will teach u how to look at your nutrition holistically, instead of just as "wot u shud cut out". For me, i checked my blood glucose BEFORE i ate those rusks. My fasting blood glucose was within a range i aim for and that is under 100mg/dl (5.5mmol/l) fasting. At 95mg/dl (5.2mmol/l) i have better control over the blood glucose rise those rusks wud cause. Starting off with high blood glucose and then eating foods (bread / koeksisters / muffins /donuts - croissants among others) which further increase it astronomically wud b counter productive. PS: Remember i am successfully chronic medication free for 2.5 years already. The 30 day challenge has helped many women (and men thru their wives participating) to make positive dietary changes for themselves and their families. I think however that the group support is the best part (if u use the group properly). So, r u up for the challenge? Btw: Its been YEARSSSSS since i ate "regular" rusks. I will also not b buying them again anytime soon. Why? Cos i cant eat just 2. No - i eat for the lekkerte and thats the problem, i eat mayb 3 or 4 🙈 So i know its best for ME not to buy them regularly.

What did intuitive eating look like for me today? This afternoon my sister made choc-chip muffins. I wanted one immediately (because I love muffins and chocolate!), but I told myself to have crackers instead, it’s healthier. After my crackers, I couldn’t get my mind off the muffins. In the past, this is how I ended up bingeing. But today, I gave into the craving and I ate three of the muffins. Granted, this is a bit more than what I needed (and I felt a bit sick after), but I wouldn’t classify this as a binge, because I know this was my body’s response to the mental restriction. I went with my craving, and I know this is the only way to break the binge cycle and allow my body to trust me again. That’s called progress. And I’m so proud. (I know the pic hasn’t got anything to do with my post, but if you’re having a bad day, I hope my little buddy cheers you up) ❤️ #eatingdisorderrecovery #eatingdisorderawareness #anorexia #anorexiafight #recovery #healthy #craving #thefuckitdiet #fuckdietculture #diet #happy #freedom #foodfreedom #disorderedeating #live #loveyourself #loveyourbody #bodyimage #bodypositive #mentalhealth

I ditched my #fitbit a long time ago, and thank god I did. I was obsessed with step counts, exercise minutes, and tapping it every 30 seconds to see what changed. The most helpful feature was the sleep monitor because I was able to see how restless I was in the night time (and I have a sleep disorder so it was immensely useful). What’s alarming is I’m seeing more and more kids under age 13 with these gadgets that surveillance their bodies and attach them to a piece of technology that serves to amplify the calculator in their brain—the one that causes and maintains the behavior of #eatingdisorders . The scary part is, seeing so many fitbits recently has made me think about getting one again—but it’s so dangerous for me and such a slippery slope. Today I did not do a scheduled workout, I enjoy a piece of birthday cake, sushi, and a drink! And NO I did not fall off the wagon! I’m living life people! A life of freedom, balance, and respect for my body and self. . I enjoyed myself today, and I also walked around a water park for 5 hours carrying big heavy tubes up large hills. I also had a superfoods shake for breakfast and a chicken salad for lunch. . There no perfect meal plan, it’s not one size fits all. You’ve just got to find YOUR sweet spot, what works for you. That place where you’re honoring and respecting your body and how you want to feel (strong, healthy, confident) while also not depriving and or restricting. That’s the sweet spot! . And today was soooo sweet!

This veggie burrito was STUFFED. Pinto beans, rice, guacamole and roasted veggies - broccoli, carrots, zucchini and cabbage on a whole wheat tortilla. I ate the entire burrito when I wasn’t hungry for all of it. I was fully present in the moment when I got about 3/4 through it and felt my fullness. And then I kept eating and finished it, simply because it tasted good. I over ate past my fullness, just for the pleasure of eating. And that’s ok. Eating past the point of being full is normal eating behavior. I trust my body to make up for it. I trust myself with food, and I trust the feeling of enjoyment simply for the sake of the food tasting really good. Because burritos are so freaking good! And sometimes 3/4 of one just isn’t enough 😉

Today was a lesson in surrendering. Had a beautiful morning going for a long walk and listening to @foodpsychpod followed by fun at the market with my family and a few hours at the beach. I’d be lying if I said I felt comfortable in a bathing suit. I had a bout of overwhelming anxiety when we got home, thought about going for a run or to the gym and then realized I didn’t want to exercise to feel better but to change my body in hopes that looking a certain way would lead to comfort. This has and always will be a failing plan. Looking a certain way will never be good enough or bring joy. So I surrendered to these feelings, let them be felt rather than running or restricting them away in an attempt to numb. I had a shower (which is my best coping mechanism when I’m feeling out of control), expressed how I was feeling to my mum, and was able to sit with her and share fresh white chocolate raspberry scones with her before going for a long walk to get out some thoughts and move my body a little bit (out of love not hate). The word surrender is resonating a lot with me lately. Releasing control and letting things be. Loving myself exactly as I am now; not when I get a tan, not once my digestion is on point, not when I’m covered up in baggy clothing.. right now. Breakfast (pictured): eggs and salsa with fruit. Lunch: more fruit, and tuna salad with Mary’s organic crackers. Snack: kombucha and a scone. Supper (pictured): buffalo ranch chicken burgers, salad with lettuce I picked from moms garden, air fried zucchini 🥗🥒💚 #surrender #feeltoheal #vulnerability

A check up is looking at your vitals to make sure you aren’t dying- if any of these things look abnormal a lot of damage has already taken place—damage which could show up as not optimal but still “ normal” health . A better question is where can you optimize your health? . Drs often collect a lot of info on our family history and it’s not used to prevent disease. It’s just used as confirmation of risk once you experience onset symptoms. . There ARE amazing doctors out there, but so many are bogged down with paperwork, with high numbers of really sick patients . And the result is there is “no time for health optimization” . As a woman who’s father died at 41 of a heart attack, my grandfather died of stage 4 colon cancer, my mom has chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol, POOR METABOLISM is a huge issue and it’s PREVENTABLE . My main concern is digestion- my first PCP was not informed at all about digestive issues. In fact I learned more about digestion in the body building community than main stream doctors which is A HUGE problem. . You know back in the day, doctors used to ask how you were pooping to confirm you were healthy! Hint if you aren’t pooping well- that’s the first issue to work on! . I was able to find a holistic dr that was covered by insurance but he was on the opposite end of the spectrum— only wanted to treat ailments with food prescriptions and meditation. . The best situation was finding my current PCP that is both traditional and holistic in her approach. By working with her I’ve learned I don’t produce enough stomach acid which caused disbiosis in my gut. This impacts fat loss! First we treated candidia in my gut and now SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) . For the first time in my life I feel like I am getting true preventative health care, and I am so grateful I found her. So I am here to tell you it does exist and don’t stop until you have the best healthcare team in place! . Do you feel like your health is optimized?

This is what food freedom looks like for me today. Ordering a pineapple boat at a Mexican restaurant by myself on a Saturday night. It was also a rest day spent at a bachelorette party with yummy food! I ordered what sounded good. Enjoying every bite and listening to my body. Today’s a happy day. 💛 . . #foodfreedom #intuitiveeating #nourishyourbody #recoveryisaprocess #nourishnotpunish #mindfuleating

It's a Lemon Basil Sorbet kinda night! 🍋 I've got a brand new recipe for this delicious, FOUR ingredient Lemon Basil Sorbet coming your way soon! Today I whipped up this sorbet and ran down the driveway to pick some wild raspberries for a simple Wild Raspberry Compote. I used to weigh my ice cream. Just to make sure I knew exactly how many calories I was eating, exactly how many grams of sugar I was consuming, so I could hit my calorie deficit and run to do some extra cardio in the morning. Tonight I savoured every bite of this sorbet and licked my bowl clean. Tonight's dessert was different than it used to be because I'm embracing food freedom every single day. I am working to release myself of the guilt and judgement that used to come with every single food choice I made. So get the heck out there and enjoy that ice cream. Give yourself permission without the shame that's normally attached to eating dessert because a healthy relationship with food may just be healthier for you than your goal weight.

Delicious meal doesn't have to be expensive. Bubur Ayam Borobudur (sold by a street vendor in front of Borobudur Dept. Store, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta) for IDR 12k with spiced quail, chicken intestine & liver satay for IDR 1k each. I spent only IDR 15k (equal to US $1.08) for this fulfilling and delicious breakfast. Bubur ayam is Indonesian-style chicken rice congee/porridge. Originated from China, this congee is mostly sold by street vendors in the morning for breakfast. It's normally served with some condiments such as shredded cooked chicken, cakwe (Chinese long doughnut), fried soy bean, chopped celery, fried shallot, soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, chicken broth, peanut chili sauce, and crackers. Oh btw, I'm on the "bubur tidak diaduk" side😂😂. . . . #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeater #nondiet #foodfreedom #lifebeyonddieting #wellnesswithoutobsession #allfoodsfit #mealspiration #flexibleeating #balancedlife #portioncontrol #eatwellbewell #momlife #breakfast #sarapan #chickenriceporridge #chickenricecongee #indonesianchickenporridge #buburayam #foodporn #foodlover #foodgasm #foodenthusiast #foodphotography #foodstagram #timbuburgakdiaduk #buburtidakdiaduk

Next time I think I’ll BYO Balsamic 🤣 but I think I did pretty well at this solo #foodfreedom picnic. Whenever we binge eat, our first response is to blame ourselves for lacking self control. 🤦‍♀️ I know I've been there. 🙋‍♀️ “Ugh. I was so good all day. Why do I feel out of control around food at night?!" Many of my clients experience the same scenario. However, what we don't always realize is that the impossible food rules and restriction we partake in are what makes binge eating inevitable for the most part. People often binge as an emotional response as well. One of the reasons I love Intuitive Eating is because it integrates the entire body—which also includes our emotional/mental well-being. Emotional eating is normal. (However, when it becomes our only coping mechanism, then it may be time to explore some other areas of self-care. ) . . But one thing I want to leave you with is this thought--binge eating is a mechanism for trying to care for yourself. . . I want to help take the shame away from binge eating because honestly shame is never helpful. 🙅‍♀️ But rather, recognize that you are trying to care for yourself to the best of your knowledge--whether it is ineffective or not. 💕 Once you start to realize this, it becomes easier to dig deeper and explore the reasoning behind your binges and what you might be able to do instead. . . Edit—I see the typo but I’m fighting my perfectionism hard core to not repost 😂 . . . . #bingeeating #bingeeatingdisorder #emotionaleating #selfcare #intuitiveeating

Tbh, the last few days have been pretty rough. My beloved dog passed away unexpectedly and it honestly crushed my whole family. He wasn’t old. He was fine only a couple hours before. We weren’t prepared at all. I didn’t even get to say goodbye. That is part of what made it so hard. Life can change so fast. Spend time with the people you love. Go on the pizza date with your boyfriend. Get the ice cream with your parents. Hug your pets a little longer. Take time to catch up with your friends. Don’t let food insecurities or the busyness of every day life make you miss out those moments, those memories. Yes, I’ve been sad but I’ve been spending time with people who make me happy and eating lots of food that makes me happy too because ~newsflash~ it’s okay and normal if food is linked to emotions sometimes. Food is fuel for our bodies to preform our daily functions but sometimes food is also fuel for our souls, bringing people together, where it is more about the people you are with when you are eating than what you are actually eating. Pictured: (my pizza is the bottom one) @blazepizza classic crust with red sauce, gorgonzola, chicken, bacon, fresh basil and oregano And the salmon orzo salad from @grandviewcafe Unpictured: Approximately my body weight in chips & buffalo chicken dip, icecream, tacos, and more chips & queso the next night.. I could never get tired of chips and dip 🤷🏽‍♀️

I ate a bit of everything tonight. Caesar salad, chargrilled oysters, crab cocktail, some delicious breads and a few bites of @finchcotton’s kobe burger. And also a few bites of fried oreo and red velvet cake. But I didn’t come home overly full.⠀ I was chatting with a friend yesterday about how I’ve never been more in tune with my body. I pay attention to its signs and signals, its cravings. I don’t eat past the point of satiety most of the time because I don’t like the way it feels. I restrict nothing and taste everything. No rules. And I feel more free than ever. This is the opposite of strict calorie counting and dieting. This is listening to my own body’s cues. No more diets. No more noise. Just listening. And this feels good ❤️⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #elizabethfinchwellness #wellness #realwellness #healthyhabits #healthybodyhealthymind #iin #iinhealthcoach #wellnessblogger #lifestyleblogger #mindbodygram #teamself #healthyliving #intuitiveliving #antidiet #nodiets #guthealth #guthealing #intuitiveeating #foodfreedom #womenshealth #littlerockwellness #healthylifestyle

Sharing one of my fav podcasts with you guys. 🎤 Food psych with @chr1styharrison is always informative and interesting, I love listening to this as I’m going for a morning stroll. Preferably with the sun shiny on my face🤗 . One of the best thing you can do to counter the constant bombardment of diet culture is to saturate yourself in the anti-diet/ Haes message. Listening to podcasts, reading books and following people on social media that unravel the lies diet culture tells and help you find ways to break free and find freedom in your food choices and body acceptance makes the world of difference ✌️😘 . #melspage #foodpsych #foodpsychpodcast #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeatingjourney #haes #bodyacceptance #bopojourney #morethanabody #allfoodsfit #balancednotclean #nourishtoflourish #nourishnotpunish #mentalhealthmatters #podcastshare #nondietwarrior #antidietapproach #antidiet #dietfreezone #nondietapproach #allfoodsfit #foodfreedom #fuckdietculture
