Yesterday morning, my friend Peter told me he’d been in the back field of the farm I work on (and the farm he lives on) and found a whole lot of Saint John’s Wort, and asked if I’d like to accompany him in harvesting some. My eyes lit up because just earlier yesterday morning I was resolving myself with the fact that the Saint John’s Wort I planted this Spring won’t go to flower this year (maybe next). So about an hour later, we grabbed our baskets and scissors, some oil, and hiked out through the woods.
It was nice to talk with Peter about everything from astrophysics and whether we should be trying to colonize Mars, to his 5 children, to his and his wife’s experience with the herbal world over the last 30-40 years. It was a really lovely afternoon, and I’m really looking forward to learning more from my peers who also are enthusiastic about sharing knowledge.
Today, I went out to get more St John’s/Joan’s Wort for more tincture and for a honey infusion. It was nice to spend my Friday (I work Tue-Sat) afternoon with myself, listening to the different bird calls, picking blackberries and harvesting medicine.
