Just over a year ago when I started some new health supplement products to help with some serious gut health issues I was having, I had no clue that would lead to something more than just improving my health. Early starts, late finishes and all of the juggling In between call for a great deal of organisation if the health and fitness routine is to stay on track for the long haul and meal prepping has worked wonders for ensuring balanced, regular meal times and keeping things on an even keel. . . 20 minute pumpkin soup was exactly what was needed after a busy surgery followed by after school activities. Sautéed spring onions and garlic, added chopped spice roasted pumpkin from the meal prep fridge stash, a splash of water and simmered before blitzing. Delicious topped with pea shoots, coconut yoghurt, pepitas and fresh coriander and leftovers are perfect for lunch the following day. . . Simple things that make all the difference..... . . First off, let’s distinguish the difference between gluten intolerance and Celiac Disease. Celiac Disease affects less than 1% of the population. It is an extreme allergy to gluten that can cause malnutrition, stunted growth, severe neurological conditions, and even death. Much more common is gluten intolerance. It’s all a balancing act ⚖️ . Oestrogen dominance (OD) is a term used to describe when we have excess oestrogen in our body (or too little progesterone). OD can lead to PMS, heavy/ irregular periods, breast tenderness, bloating, weight gain, fibroids, endometriosis, PCOS and breast/ ovarian cancers. OD has also been linked to a higher incidence of post natal depression, difficulty breast feeding and colic babies. . Did you know that an estimated 50% of American women over the age of 35 are Oestrogen Dominant? . This is no surprise as we are exposed to chemical oestrogens on a daily basis. These chemicals are either ingested or absorbed through our skin, mimicking our own oestrogen, causing levels to rise. . Examples of chemical oestrogens include: 🧤Pesticides found in non-organic foods and weed killers 🧤BPA in plastics and tin can linings 🧤Phthalates in cosmetics, perfumes, air fresheners, toiletries and soft plastics . The foods we eat and the lifestyle we lead can also create a hormonal imbalance, leading to OD. Below are a few examples of just how easy it is to become OD: ➖Increased sugar consumption= increased insulin production. Insulin stimulates oestrogen production. ➖Adipose (fat) cells make oestrogen, so the more excess fat we carry= the more oestrogen we produce. ➖Impaired liver function causes oestrogen to be reabsorbed and recycled by our body creating excess amounts. ➖Vitamin B, Magnesium, Zinc, Protein and Omega fats are essential nutrients required to metabolise oestrogen effectively. If we are deficient in these nutrients then oestrogen levels rise. ➖Stress increases cortisol production. Cortisol suppresses progesterone, contributing to OD. ➖Oral contraceptive pill is designed to stop you ovulating, thereby regulating your hormones. No ovulation= reduced progesterone= higher levels of oestrogen.

Low carb pizza crust recipe that seriously takes 10 minutes to make! You’re welcome 😉 🍕! . INGREDIENTS 1 cup blanched fine almond flour 1 TBS arrowroot flower 1 egg 1 TBS cold pressed coconut oil (measure solid then melt) 1 tsp apple cider vinegar 1/4 tsp sea salt . DIRECTIONS 👉🏼 preheat oven to 350 degree F 👉🏼mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl. 👉🏼take dough and form a ball with hands. Place in the center of a piece of parchment paper. 👉🏼take a second piece of parchment paper and place on top of dough, flatten with hand. Take a rolling pin or glass jar to roll the dough until flat - about 1/4 inch thick crust. 👉🏼remove top piece of parchment paper then transfer the dough plus bottom parchment to a baking pan (laying flat) 👉🏼bake for 10 minutes 👉🏼prepare toppings, sauce etc. while crust cooks. I sautéed onion, zucchini and mushrooms with coconut oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder. 👉🏼 take out after 10 minutes, add sauce and toppings, put back in for another 8-10 minutes. MACRO BOWLS ~ Looking for an easy way to get more healthy food into your diet without being a professional chef?!? Here’s my step by step process for making your own unique macro bowl! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ . . . Step 1: Pick a base grain or legume (wild or brown rice, quinoa, lentils, cauliflower rice) Step 2: Roast veggies of choice! I usually do yams, broccoli, cauliflower! Step 3: Choose your protein (chicken, salmon, steak, tofu, tempeh, beans) Step 4: Add your greens/fresh! This is important I do steamed kale or spinach and sprouts! Step 5: Pick a sauce... This is often the hardest step where people get lost. If your not a sauce wizard then buy a yummy one. Keep your eyes peeled for sugar content and try to choose a sauce with ingredients you’d recognize. A sauce change up will make a brand new dish so switch it up from time to time. Step 6: Add your ferment! Don’t skip this step, I use either a spicy kimchi or sauerkraut from @wildbrine 🙌🏻 . . . This is awesome for kids as they give them lots of choice and freedom. What is the BEST DIET? 🤔🍴 Comment with how you would describe your nutritional approach! I get a lot of DMs asking for nutrition advice - everything from how to eat and diet recommendations to what my personal diet and preferences look like. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’ve tried out all sorts of diets and nutritional approaches. Over the past four years, I’ve done several rounds of @whole30, implemented the keto diet, followed paleo, tried out intermittent fasting…I’ve been around the block! You can read about most of these experiences over the blog - link in my bio. After all my experimentation…what’s my answer? There’s no-one-size-fits-all approach to being health! Although there are some nutritional fundamentals that are pretty well-established by science, new research is always coming out. Additionally, we each have our own needs, depending on our health conditions, preferences, genetics, and environments. Since that’s the case, what have I found that works for me? Lately, I’ve opted for a very balanced approach called the “Pegan” diet - the name was coined by @drmarkhyman, is a mash-up of “Paleo” and “Vegan,” and it basically combines the best of both. I won’t go into too much detail here (I’ll be sharing more), but in a nutshell, the #Pegan diet is anti-inflammatory, whole food-focused, plant-based, and allows for sustainably-raised and sourced meats animal products in moderate amounts. #eatrealfood And eating this way is how I feel my happiest, healthiest self! For the sake of my “food freedom,” I leave room to make my own choices. If I want a glass of wine or a donut, I’ll have some because I want to. If I need to grab something quick while I’m on the go, I’ll try to make the best educated decisions I can with what’s available. SEAFOOD STIR FRY WITH 'COURGETTI' NOODLES 💚 a great week night quick & nutritious meal! the below recipe is for two servings 😁 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Using courgettes instead of noodles are a great way to make a meal #lowfodmap and are also good for people wanting to reduce carbohydrate intake or who have celiac disease/are gluten free. Simply use a handheld or electric spiralizer to spiralize 1 courgette and boil in a pan for 5-8 minutes. Done! ✔ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ In a wok or large frying pan heat 1 tbsp coconut oil. When boiling, add 1cm cube chopped ginger and fry for about 3 minutes. Add in 1 yellow pepper (diced), 2 carrots (chopped), and 1 red chili (chopped). Cook until beginning to soften then add in the spices: 1 tsp fenugreek, 1 tsp allspice, 1 tsp black seed, 1/2 tsp cumin, a handful of chopped coriander. Reduce heat and add one 1/2 bag of cooked mixed seafood (or skip this step for #vegetarian / #vegan option). Stir in 1 tbsp smooth almond butter, and plenty of soy sauce (to taste). Plastic free veggie haul & am proud of myself for the personal commitment that I take everyday to reduce unnecessary plastic package food products for the environmental health, my family/friends health, my health & for my beautiful planet & all the living things in it 🐋🦋🐝🐠🐅🦜🌺🌾👩‍👩‍👧‍👦.
