What are Carbohydrates?⁣🤩 __________________________⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Carbohydrates provide fuel for the working muscles and tissues in the body. These carbohydrates are made of small saccharide (sugar) molecules that can form different types of carb combinations. The carb combinations are also known as monosaccharides (one sugar), disaccharides (2 sugars), polysaccharides (many sugars), and oligosaccharides.⁣ ⁣ Mono/di = simple carbs = more easily digestible = spike of blood glucose/quick energy⁣ ⁣ Poly/oligo = complex carbs = slower digesting = slower elevation of blood glucose/sustained energy⁣ ⁣ There are also carbohydrates that are not digested in the body. These carbs are referred to as dietary fiber. Dietary fiber is the edible portion of plants that are resistant to digestion. Fiber is essential to the diet because it helps prevent diseases, curbs hunger due to slow digestion, reduces blood glucose spiking, and helps keep your digestive system regular!⁣ ⁣ If you have more glucose than what is needed, your body stores extra glucose as glycogen in the liver and muscles. The body can only store a limited amount of glucose as glycogen so any extra glucose left is stored as fat in the body. When the body is short on glucose, like when fasting and sleeping, the liver will use glycogen stores or fat for energy as needed. ⁣ ⁣ Carbohydrates are 4 calories per gram consumed. That means that every gram of carb will provide 4 calories worth of energy. The calories are the same regardless if it is a simple carb, complex carb, or fiber-rich carb. The difference between them is the nutrients in each type of carbohydrate.⁣ ⁣ Simple carbs in a meal will cause rapid increases in blood glucose levels which causes quick bursts of energy. Having complex carbs in a meal will cause a slower increase in blood glucose levels which will spread the energy over time. Fiber-rich carbs in a diet will help you feel full and satisfied preventing from overeating. I talk with people every day about health, wellness and fitness and almost ALL of them want a change. They WANT to feel better. They WANT to be healthier. I went to a pick your own farm a few weeks back to pick 🍓 also, didn’t realise how satisfying it is to pick raspberries 🤷🏼‍♀️ and pull beetroot out the ground (my mind is very easily blown). When I started weight training, I learned about the different muscles & I never realized how many muscles there are. When you think of arms, you think of what typically? Biceps & triceps but there is other muscles in between those muscles and working out those in between muscles make a huge difference in having muscular arms & not muscular arms . . . . Curb the sugar cravings🍰🍬 PART 1!!!!! We all know prevention is better than cure. But lets cover cure before we work on the prevention! Cure So if you are at all like me, and suffer from the sweetest tooth imaginable to man, you know that its not as easy as “just don’t have it”. Oh… just don’t have it??? Never thought of that! Thanks!!! So if you are in the current situation where you either have a sugar hangover from the weekend, or alternatively, just cant stop having something with a cup of tea, try looking at what you are deficient in. The chances are, there’s a lack of magnesium in the body. Magnesium regulates insulin, glucose and neurotransmitter dopamine. Zinc also plays a big part. Deficiencies in these will lead to sugar cravings (as well as eating lots of sugar!!) particularly chocolate. If its magnesium you are after, try have a couple of almonds. I know…. They aren’t as exciting as chocolate but it will curb the craving. If it’s a case that you don’t want or like them, melt down some 70%+ dark chocolate and dip some strawberries in it. Drink water. Before you pull the plug and eat half a packet of biscuits…. Satisfying the demons for all of 30 seconds, fly out to the kitchen and drink a glass of water…. Or 2.Generally, if you are lacking in the likes of zinc, magnesium, calcium or chromium, your bodys dehydration will mask itself as a sugar craving. Bauld little fecker. So if you need to implement some of these, start now. Don’t let your excuses sneak up on you so from time to time i like to wear my weight vest to remind myself of all the extra weight (body fat) I don’t want because the pain I’ll go through with the vest i can just take it off in seconds but the bad weight gain will take weeks or months So knowing how it feels to have that extra 5 or 10 or 20lbs why would I want to play myself by eating not according to my goals? . • Going out eating with friends, family or loved ones: Doesn’t mean we have to eat the same meals or portions • Putting in 4 to 6% of your day towards some workout: Doesn’t mean you have to always go to the gym • Going out on weekend with friends, family or loved ones: Doesn’t mean we always have to drink too much or every weekend . The best excuse is always, “I have no time.” The fastest way to gain time is to watch one hour less of TV everyday. What would you do with an extra 7 hours a week? Another trick to gain more time is getting up earlier. I start my day at 3:30 AM everyday. I am much more calm and relaxed and don’t start the day already running around stressed. Getting up earlier reinforces self-discipline and you’ll gain self-respect. Za razliku od ne-sportaša i cilja postizanja optimalnoga zdravlja i blagostanja tijela pomoću adekvatne hidracije, sportaši moraju imati nešto rigorozniji i prezizniji režim unosa tekućine. Sportaši (ali i rekreativci) moraju biti svijesni kako je neadekvatna hidracija, stanje dehidracije, čvrsto povezano s padom, u nekakvom, sportskom performansu u aktivnosti ili sportu kojim(a) se bave. Razlog tome je što tekućina ima mnoge izrazito važne uloge u tijelu među kojima je i normalno funkcioniranje skeletnih mišića (što omogućuje odrađivanje tjelesnih aktivnosti). Isto tako sportaši moraju biti svjesni kako unos tekućine u cilju optimizacije performansa ne mogu prepustiti jedino i samo osjećaju žeđi. U situacijama provođenja intenzivnih tjelesnih aktivnosti, osjećaj žeđi velikom većinom je odgođen, što znači da vaše tijelo kasni sa signalizacijom da trebate unijeti veće količine tekućine, što posljedično može dovesti do dehidracije i njenih neželjenih posljedica. Zbog toga sportaši moraju provoditi dodatne, planirane protokole unosa tekućine kojima pokušavamo spriječiti takve i slične pojave. Prvenstveno moramo osigurati da određana osoba ne ulazi u provođenje tjelesne aktivnosti u stanju dehidracije, što spriječavamo unosom tekućine (posebice) kroz period od 2 sata prije aktivnosti. Tijekom aktivnosti cilj nam je spriječiti gubitak tjelesne mase od 2 ili više posto. To je kritična količina tekućine koja kada se izgubiti dovodi do značajnog gubitka na tjelesnih performansama. Nakon tjelesne aktivnosti, potrebno je nadoknaditi svu eventualno izgubljenu količinu tjelesne mase (tjelesne tekućine), i to na način da unesemo minimalno 1,5 puta više vode (u litrama ili mililitrama) nego što smo izgubili tjelesne mase tijekom aktivnosti (tjelesna masa prije tjelesne aktivnosti - tjelesna masa nakon tjelesne aktivnosti = gubitak na tjelesnoj masi, tj gubitak tjelesnih tekućina) Točne količine vode koje je potrebno unijeti su izrazito individualne... ovise o pojedincu, stopi znojenja osobe, vanjskim uvjetima klime, vrsti, duljini i intenzitetu tjelesne aktivnosti pa nam je zbog toga nemoguće dati točne kvantitativne podatke. From small ones like what outfit to wear or should we add guac to our Chipotle order, to bigger ones like should we take that job offer or buy that new car.
