Short version: 1. Schedule exercise (or really anything you are struggling to accomplish) into your day/week/life. 2. Start by committing to an activity or amount of time that isn’t intimidating. My version: Almost didn’t do my workout today. Felt a little stiff and pretty unmotivated but wanted to keep to my schedule. Told myself to try for five minutes and gave myself permission to stop after five minutes if I still wasn’t feeling it. Well here I am 30 minutes later posing for a cheesy sweaty selfie and feeling like a total badass. (I mean the workout was called Total Body Badass so of course I get to feel like one when I finish it.) When you don’t want to get out of bed or up from your cozy recliner or you’re feeling unmotivated but you know you need to or want to or should exercise, make it less intimidating by allowing yourself to only do five minutes or an easy walk or simply stretching or some sit ups or anything that you don’t dread as much as a tough workout called Total Body Badass. Once you get out of bed or out of your chair and start moving, chances are you’ll keep moving. Even if you only do the five minutes, it’s still a win. That’s five minutes you would have spent feeling like you should have been doing what you did! Not so fun. In fact, what’s really harder?

T A K E - M E - B A C K : not everyday is a vacation (I would do just about anything to be back in this lovely place in Mexico right about now...) But here’s the thing.... what if we could take “mini vacations” daily? What if we could learn and teach others to build a habit around unwinding from the stress each and every day? ✨What do you think this would do for your health? Relationships? Success?! For those around you?✨ Here are some simple things I aim to do daily- at least a few of them. I can tell you that this practice has more weight in results than any diet or exercise routine. When we reduce our stress, so many great things fall into place in our health; belly fat decreases, brain chemistry shifts, relationships get stronger and so much more. Consider trying one of these daily: deep breathing techniques. Try it for 5 mins daily. Inhale deeply for 4 seconds, exhale for 4. Try breathing through your nose taking deep belly breaths. use those CPTG essential oils. Diffusing regularly or inhaling them from the palms of your hands is one of the fastest ways to reduce stress and turn around a negative mood or emotion. exercise outside for 20+ mins a day. Fresh air, sunshine, movement increases those endorphins. prayer/mediation - start and end your day in a quiet time of prayer and give thanks for all you are grateful for. There is always something to be grateful for no matter how crazy life gets, right?! detox baths- get that tub as hot as you can safely stand it, throw in some Epsom salts, baking soda, FCO and your fav oils. Soak for 20-60 minutes to release the toxic stress and replace it with relaxation and goodness your body needs. re-evaluate what’s in your ear. What messages are you listening to or reading each day? Is it making you feel inspired, good, loved? A good message will do wonders for the brain and heart. do more of what makes you happy- whatever that is on a deep down soul level. Routines are great, but they can lead to a comfort zone, or even worse, a rut.⁠ ⁠ I get very comfortable working from home, making my own cold brew coffee and eating my meal-prepped lunches. Talk about routine!⁠ ⁠ When I went to Influencer Conference in San Diego last week my routine was turned upside down and I had to pivot and adjust on the fly. Plans change quickly and a quiet night in can be hijacked by a friendly group who invite you out.⁠ ⁠ I encourage you to relax on the routine while you’re away at an event. Stretch your capacity for one more conversation, or one more drink...if the environment is helpful and you’re meeting new people, take advantage of the opportunity while you have it.⁠ ⁠ Learning from others also means being introduced to success principles that might be worth introducing into your own routine. Most of the speakers at this conference are very upfront about getting up at 5am and making sleep a priority.⁠ ⁠ Guess what I did when I got back. I prioritized my sleep and started focusing on my morning routine. In an effort to explain some context behind my Middle Way Wellness philosophy and what methods & modalities have influenced it I am going to be featuring a word of the day! . These terms are ones you may or may not be familiar with. They all have influenced my approach to health & wellness and I incorporate these terms & concepts in the membership content! . Today’s word or rather term is: . RADICAL ACCEPTANCE! . Karyn Hall, PhD describes radical acceptance as “completely and totally accepting something from the depths of your soul, with your heart and your mind.” . Radical Acceptance is a practice developed by Marsha Linehan and used in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). It is the notion that reality must be accepted, rather than fought against, and that fighting and railing against a situation is a greater cause of suffering than the situation itself. . “Radical acceptance is the practice of accepting everything about yourself, your current situation, and your life without question, blame, or pushback” (Julia Thomas). . Ummm, but isn’t that the same as giving up or resigning? 🤔 It’s not! Wait, really? Yes, really! . Radical acceptance does not negate anyone’s desire for change. Acceptance & change CAN and DO co-exist. That’s a dialectic! I’ll expand on that later. It’s also very Middle Way! Rather than choosing between acceptance OR change, you accept things as they are AND your desire to change the situations or things in your control. . So, how does acceptance help me change myself or my circumstances? Good question! When we fully accept we are no longer fighting reality and can approach change from an empowered and wise mind place. After all, “Acceptance doesn’t prohibit growth. Rather, it fosters it” (Marianne Williamson). . My husband got this and saved it for me. One thing I realized in the recent months is that little habits really do make a difference. Too many times we just focus on the end goal, and it might be too much or overwhelming for us to think about (e.g., run a marathon, run a mile, lose 10 pounds, get certain markers down). And we are only focused on the goal instead of the process of getting there. If you can start with small, attainable habits that you can easily incorporate into your day, you’ll feel successful and then can build from there. promise Instead of, “I want to lose weight”, how about: * I will eat at least 2 servings of veggies a day 🥦 * I will eat at least 1 serving of fruit a day 🍎 * I will drink at least 3 glasses of water a day 💧 * I will do 3 minutes of walking a day.🚶🏻‍♀️ Why 3 minutes? Because it’s small. And there is absolutely ZERO excuse you can give to NOT do this. And if you do it, you are successful. After 3 minutes you wanna do more? Great. Do it. If not, that’s fine, you were still successful for the day. Mark if off with a red check on a calendar you can hang in the kitchen so you can visualize the days you stick to these mini habits. Aim for more checks than not. Over time you may find that you have now become the person that has the qualities and habits of a person who’s achieved that original goal you wanted. I always make my bed. Always, always, always. . . I don't always work out, eat well, do morning basket, or speak kindly 🤦‍♀️, but I always make my bed. . . And some people say it's a fruitless activity, that has to be done again and again... So what's the point? . . The point to me is self-training. MOST of what I do every 👏 single 👏 day 👏 has to be done over and over and over. If I didn't do things because of that, then I wouldn't do anything 🤷‍♀️. . . Making my bed daily provides a few things: 1- A visual reminder that doing something routinely AND well makes a thing beautiful. It brings satisfaction. 2- Rest. When the day has gotten too hard, too loud, too insane, I have a retreat. Comfortable, moderately luxurious, and restful. It beckons me to lay it all down and REST. 3- Which also makes it a refuge from the demands of life. A spot for beauty even when everything else is a mess. 4- More recently, the visual reminder that my marriage (and marriage bed... Ahem) must come first. Is it possible? How to get good habits?" Well, I think everyone has good habits or bad habits. It's okay. Some people are fighting with bad habits like smoking or drinking alcohol or playing computer games. Sometimes they can replace bad habits to good ones. Recently I've learnt that if you want to get a new habit, you should do it every day during 30 days. Then you will do this habit automatically. Actually, I am not sure it works. Some years ago I tried to practise a system "Fly lady" (maybe you've heard about it) I needed to wash my sink every day before going to sleep during 30 days for developing this like a new habit. You know what, it didn't work for me 🤷 Maybe this system is not for me. Probably it's difficult to change my routine because I got used to do the same things every day. Anyway I think it's possible to change something if you really want it. (Maybe I was weak in my decision to get a new habit 🤷 because I'm sure everything is up to myself) Well, if I say about my successful experience, I should tell you about "my own hour in the morning" then. It's time when I can enjoy myself, read a book, have breakfast (and a cup of coffee for sure), surf on Instagram or Facebook or YouTube, chat with my friends (some of them has an evening when I have a morning. Hahaha. It's funny) In short, this hour is for myself. When my kids were younger this hour was like helpful time for me. I liked to wake up early for enjoying a silent hour alone. Nowadays I use this hour for making breakfast, having breakfast and preparing for my work. It's like a habit for me now. I need this time, just need it.

Example: If you’re relying on motivation to get you to the gym twice a week, good luck for the long haul! Especially now as the days get darker and colder😁 . . If you rely on cultivating a habit and are committed, consistent and disciplined with it (like going to the gym twice a week) regardless of what mood you are in that day, dark and cold won’t have shit on you. You are the sky! . . When living with something that makes mood/energy fluctuations more violent (mental health, menstrual cycle, hormones, stress) building strong habits is especially helpful (and especially hard!) . . Focus on one behavior change at a time and stick to it. . . Pay attention to when you do feel motivated, use that motivation for what it’s worth in the moment. But don’t attach yourself to it thinking it is “supposed” to be there all the time (it won’t). Pay attention to when you’re not so motivated, but you still completed a habit.
