The benttridentmaple is growing really well in its new bonsaipot. A shame 3 lower branches died last year due to it being overly root bound I think - but that’s life for you 🤔 27-10-19. bonsai bonsailife bonsailovers bonsaitree bonsaiwork bonsaipot australianbonsai gardening balconygarden growth livingart naturephotography nature acerbuergerianum tridentmaple maple moss landscaping landscape hillyplantings spring

Our little 9 year old bentcorkybarkelm is recovering well from nearly dying from rootrot last year. A complete redesign for the bentprunusmume on this repot. Click the hashtag to see its journey over the last 3 years. It’s been tilted way over on it’s side and is planted against a large porous rock, and the top of the straightest branch has been cut back. The privettwintrunk had not been repotted in 2 years and 5 months. It was raising itself out of the pot and looking pretty unhealthy. It was one massive solid rootmass that took me over an hour to comb out and cut back. Note to self - repot privet every year! I think this antique Chinese bonsaipot suits the tree well. Looking forward to this tree regaining its health over the coming months 26-08-19. bonsai bonsailife bonsailovers bonsaiwork bonsaipot bonsaiinspiration bonsaibench australianbonsai leaves garden gardening balconygarden courtyard courtyardgarden nature naturephotography ligustrum landscape landscapedesign privet hillyplantings moss repotting winter

First repotting of the season - the benttridentmaple. Amazing what difference a new bonsaipot makes. The lower and wider proportions give the tree a more aged and substantial appearance I think. Plenty of room to grow now. F$*king wood boring grubs! Found an infestation in our bentprunusmume in the deadwood near and within the roots. Pulled 6 grubs out after chipping away the wood as much as I could. There is still as least one right up on the underside of the tree in the centre I can’t reach until I repot in winter. The deadwood was liberally coated with lime sulphur and I’ll spray again tomorrow with pesticide. It doesn’t look bad aesthetically - but quite worried about the tree’s health. Also found evidence on 2 other trees this morning 🤬 17-04-19. bonsai bonsailife bonsaiwork bonsaitree nature gardening australianbonsai bonsailovers balconygarden naturephotography nature japaneseapricot beautiful beauty tree tinytree hillyplantings leaves growth japanese apricot apricotflower blossom autumn prunusmume

The prunusmume has decided to put all of its energy into growing a completely new branch (on the bottom left). Kinda perfect as it suits the intended design very well. Sometimes you just get lucky 🍀. I think messed up seasons have reduced the flower power of a lot of our trees - that it the wood-boring grub infestation from autumn. This is all we got from this 42 year old this time around, and the flowers fell relatively quickly. I repotted our bentcorkybarkelm last week into a really nice pot from erinpottery. Last summer it suddenly lost most of its leaves, and a lot of branches died back. I think the soil wasn’t draining well enough and it got waterlogged. mumsliquidambar has been repotted a little early because I was afraid there might be more wood borer grubs in the roots (see back a few posts for when I discovered them). Well guess what.
