Kenya, Africa & the world should take notes from Sudan. We should learn that oppressors should never be excused simply because they are oppressing other people, tribes, race, social class etc & not us. Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.
When Sudan was one country and the government used its Army machinery against the Southerners (currently South Sudan), most people were adamant since they didn't look, sounded, lived or sufferred like southerners. They were at peace since they 'looked like' the oppressor, spoke the same language & belonged to the same social class. They weren't really affected. Eventually the country was divided into two to attain 'peace' & life went on.
If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. Less than a decade later, the oppresors have turned against 'their own' people mauling them mercilessly. Most countries are just watching, cracking pop-corns as they discuss about their budget being allocated to buy flowers to decorate dogs' kennels for state officials.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. -Regretted Martin Niemoller.
Always stand against oppression and injustice regardless of how safe and secure you feel you are. Oppressors are vampires, they never care who looks like them. In due time all they need to feed on is blood even if it means slicing their own veins.
