🌮 It’s Taco Tuesday! What’s going in your tacos tonight? These have wild Alaska halibut + our favorite coleslaw recipe from the MeatEater Fish and Game cookbook by stevenrinella (great gift idea- this book rocks). It’s amazing what our bodies are capable of! For 9 months I carried her in my womb and provided sole nourishment to her and for 9 months outside the womb except for a few messy bites here and there I have exclusively breastfed this little girl. Wellness What does this word mean to you? It means something different to everyone. The definition according to the Google is “the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.” I can relate to that. To expand on that, I also think it means taking care of myself so that I feel and look my best and that I am holistically operating, functioning and living at a high level. That doesn’t mean high energy all the time. Your body is meant to ebb and flow with the seasons, some are more upward and outward energy, while some like autumn and winter are about slowing down, going inward and recharging our batteries. When our phone batteries are down to 20%, we panic and scramble looking for a charger. When our bodies are down to 20%, which they so often are, we push through and try harder. To me, my wellness is truly taking care of myself by: eating health supportive, nutrient dense foods; Moving my body in some way every day, whether it’s yoga or a walk; meditation on the regular; learning; spending time doing things I enjoy doing and with people whose company I enjoy; paying attention to my body and what it needs, the signs and data it’s providing; and living with purpose. As all of you who read these captions know, I’ve been on a weight gaining journey for the past 5ish months. I’m about 35 pounds up and very happy with my progress. As someone who has been studying nutrition for the past few years, I knew gaining weight was a simple equation; I would have to consume more than I burn. As easy as that equation sounds, as I got heavier and had to increase my calories, I realized that I couldn’t stomach all the calories I needed in solid form. I have turned to adding a smoothie/beverage to one of my meals and a snack and it has helped tremendously. Here I just have some soy milk with banana and cinnamon. It’s a simple, but delicious combo! Soy milk -1 cup soy beans, soaked overnight(drained) -8 cups water In a blender, add half of the soaked soybeans and half the water. Blend, strain with a nut milk bag into a pot, and repeat. Heat on medium heat for about 15 minutes. 🥛: soy milk, banana, cinnamon

Think about it: produce at the grocery stores travel 1500+ miles before it gets to the store. Who knows how many transit days that takes?! On the other hand, farmer’s market produce is grown locally and sold as fresh as possible.⠀ ⠀ • Access- Grocery stores are usually more convenient. However, farmer’s markets are quickly gaining popularity and popping up all over the US.⠀ ⠀ So, is the farmer’s market really worth it? It is very hard to describe the personal satisfaction and fulfillment that is gained through experiences like this!
