Monkfish kebabs with plenty of plants 🍢 continuing with the seafood vibe — Monkfish is one of my favourite fish being taste and texture preference. I literally assembled them with the most contrasting vegetables with diff colours being: • red onion • yellow pepper • courgette • tomatoes. Alternatively use what you have but the more variety of plants delivers more nutrients being micro or phyto possible. — 484 Cals Protein 35 Carbs 23 Fat 28 Remember these recipes not set in stone so tweak what you want more or less — Ingredients • 200 grams monkfish tail or use other firm fish • 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil • 1/2 yellow pepper • handful of cherry tomatoes • 1/2 courgette / zucchini • 1/2 red onion • 1/2 avocado • handful of green beans — Recipe: 1. Preheat to medium flat wide saucepan or use a grill or bbq 2. Cut the kebab ingredients in to a uniform 1 inch thick size 3. Use a skewer of choice, I used stainless steel 4. thread the ingredients on alternating + making it look pretty 5. Add to the grill or pan etc 6. Cook for 2 minutes per side totally 8 mins 7. Whilst cooking, steak or sauté the green beans in 1/2 olive oil 8. Slice the avocado 9. Plate everything up then drizzle remaining olive oil on top. Add Celtic sea salt and serve — Hope you enjoy this as it’s one of my favourite meals and simplified way of cooking fish and getting veggies involved. HOW TO TIME PROTEIN AROUND YOUR WORKOUTS. . Have you ever heard of “meal timing?” . Or perhaps a better question is, have you ever finished your workout only to race to the locker room and down a protein shake within 20 minutes so that you do not miss the “window of opportunity?” . I have! haha . Unfortunately, this window of opportunity idea is much more of fiction than it is fact, and guzzling a protein shake immediately after your workout probably won’t do much more than give you a stomach ache from drinking too quickly. . However, meal timing does play a key role in performance and recovery as an athlete. It just doesn’t have to occur within 20-30 minutes. . Ideally, as an athlete, you should be eating 60-120 minutes (1-2 hours) before and after your workout or training session. Within both of these meals, you should be focusing on BOTH protein and carbohydrates (which we will get into next week). . If eating MORE THAN 60 minutes before your workout, your body has time to digest. If this is the case, then quality protein options include: . ▪️ Meat or Fish ▪️ Eggs ▪️ Protein Oats ▪️ Eggs ▪️ High Protein “Buddha Bowl” . If eating LESS THAN 60 minutes before your workout, then focus on LIQUID calories. This is where protein powders and shakes come in handy. Something that will digest quickly is optimal. . Then, after your workout, focus on eating a high-protein meal within 2 hours. After 2 hours, the rate of muscle breakdown increases, resulting in poor recovery and potential muscle breakdown. . Grilled Peach Parfait ••• Okay, so I actually got the idea for grilled peaches from the website of the dietetic practice that I intern for @rebel_dietitians! ••• Being in school to become an RD has made me so hyper-aware of bad nutrition advice online from “nutritionists” who have no education and no science to back up their claims! ••• If you’re having medical issues or need nutrition advice, you should go see a RD instead of trying the keto (or any) diet by yourself!! ••• Here’s why: 1) Dietitians are educated about the science of nutrition and your body and have spent years in school learning to give you the best nutrition advice! 2) Advice from an RD is almost always more practical. Most RDs will NEVER tell you to cut your favorite food out of your diet — they’ll just teach you to balance your diet. Working long hours is linked to an increased risk of stroke, researchers say.⁣ ⁣ Long hours were defined in the study as more than 10 hours on at least 50 days per year.⁣ ⁣ The researchers, from Angers University and the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, looked at data on age, smoking and working hours from a population study of more than 143,000 adults.⁣ ⁣ Writing in the American Heart Association's journal Stroke, the researchers say people working long hours had a 29% greater risk of stroke, and those doing so for 10 years or more had a 45% greater risk.⁣ ⁣ Dr Richard Francis, head of research at the Stroke Association, said: "Eating a healthy diet, finding the time to exercise, stopping smoking and getting the recommended amount of sleep can make a big difference to your health."⁣ ⁣ Stay healthy!

�𝓓𝓸 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓾𝓰𝓰𝓵𝓮 when it comes to eating healthy lunches? . If I’m not prepared, I definitely can fall into the famous “I'm hungry so I’ll just go grab something real quick” trap. Don’t get me wrong, when I do go out and grab a quick lunch I always attempt to choose healthier options. . Here’s the problem - When you grab a quick salad, burrito bowl, or burger, there are a lot of unknown variables. How was it cooked? How much sugar is in the dressing? What kind of fat was it cooked in? How much fat was it cooked in? How much sugar is in the sauce? And on, and on. . Example - The other day someone brought into the office a box with a few muffins. They look innocent enough... so I looked up the macro nutrient profile just to see what’s up. OHHH NO! That little muffin had more carbs than ½ cup of refined sugar. . Would you grab ½ cup of refined sugar and eat it with a spoon for lunch or breakfast as a healthy option? . That little harmless looking muffin the size of your fist will send your blood sugar and hormones into a roller coaster for the next few hours. The inevitable energy crash will be arriving in a few hours...followed shortly by cravings for more sugar loaded foods. . Talk about setting yourself up for failure. . Two quick tips for how to overcome this problem. . Plan ahead. If you know that you’re going to be eating out - decide what you want to eat and log the meal in a tracking app on your phone at that time. You’ll be able to see exactly what the ramifications of your choices are ahead of time, helping to shape better choices. . When in a situation where you’re choosing something off a menu and you don’t know specifics, follow this simple guide. Choose something that has protein in it (ideally meat that is NOT breaded and fried), and stay away from things that are too sweet. . Picking something with meat will help you get protein to regulate hormonal impact of the food. And staying away from bread, potatoes, and rice will help you avoid the items that are often injected with excess sugar and fat, deep fried, and easy to overeat. .
