This is my longest season ever growing summer veggies in the garden! I’ve never had tomatoes until late October grown outdoor. The pimento, tomatillos, and tomatoes (heirloom and cherry) plants are still loaded. I’m hastily harvesting everything that’s still growing in expectation of the impending frost we may get tonight. A five gallon bucket of basil to boot. Tomorrow will be a forced day of processing. homegrown organicgardening eatwhatyougrow

My cucumbers are growing on fruit trees🙂. They are climbing higher and higher. It is hard to see the tree since asparagus is overgrown around the tree. DIY Wednesday- Today’s adventures include pouring Respiratory Bombs! These molds were lined with dried Rosemary leaves. Soy wax (NOT carcinogenic paraffin wax) was poured into the molds and left to harden for 3 hours. Use these melts in candle or fragrance warmers. As the wax melts, the Rosemary is heated in the oil. You are left with an all natural & chemical free scent to fill your home. FUN FACTS- •Scientific evidence suggests that burning this herb releases memory and mood boosting qualities. •Rosemary cleanses & purifies the air in your home. •It’s also fantastic for stagnant, non-moving mucus. • • rosemary candlemelts earthmedicine amytheherbalist herbalistlife🌿 masterherbalist mastergardener growyourownmedicine herbalistlife organicgardening organicherbs growyourownmeds herbgirl herbalist herbnerd herbalremembering herbalistsofinstagram herbalistmade herbalistlifestyle herbalbodycare herbalproducts naturalbodycare naturalproducts naturalskincareproducts supportsmallbusiness shoplocal shoplocaljax shopjax jacksonville jax * *My Holistic approach to Herbalism is to bring people and plants together, connecting them in ways that can help bring support and balance to their physical, emotional, and spiritual lives. I started working on "winterizing" the garden today since it was a beautiful 60-something degrees outside. Honestly, it's been a few days since I've checked on the plants (lots of rain), but I was surprised at just how active they have been. I was able to pick at least half a dozen eggplant, and a dozen or more bell peppers. If you have any ideas for using lots of eggplant and/or peppers, please let me know!! I've already frozen a bunch and I'm running out of ideas! . . Hopefully the veggie menu will change soon since the broccoli, beans, beets, kale, cabbage and peas will stay in the ground a few more weeks. The cold weather crops will be a welcome change to our diet! . . The warm weather crops, like tomatoes and peppers started to get pulled so the beds can get cleared and covered for the dormant season. It's not the fun part of gardening, but it has to be done. And, the longer I wait, the colder it will get! . . greenpigfarm gpf veggiegarden veggies organicgardening organicveggies plantbased growyourown growfoodnotlawns homestead homesteading homesteaders homesteadinglife minifarm selfsufficient selfsustainability

What lead you to gardening or growing your own? For me it was this.... PASSIONFRUIT. I love them but I’m used to paying £1 for three in 🇬🇧 not $5 EACH here in Florida when you can find them 🤬 So I bought a plant two and a half years ago. I picked my first fruit last week. But last year I planted seeds from a fruit I begrudgingly paid $5 for. It’s enormous now, flowering at last and my garden is complete (🤥) I’ll be hand pollinating them all because there’s no bees here but It’s worth it. So what led you to your growing journey?

Today was a gorgeous fall day in the garden, and the garlic went in! Yay! I was a little late in ordering, since I didn’t decide to grow it until fairly last minute. I ended up ordering a Beginner’s Mixed Starter pack from southernexposureseed . I’ve grown garlic once before, but figured beginner-friendly types would still be good! I ended up with Inchelium Red, an artichoke type (and this kind of garlic is totally new to me, so this should be fun!) and Romanian Red, a hardneck variety. I like being in our garden, and noticing the little things. There is so much life both above, and below the soil. My peppers are crawling along now coming into Fall. I was pruning, and noticed a few aphids on the leaves, but what was following right behind? Lady Beetles! Some were in the adult stage as seen in the first image, but others were in the larvae stage (second image). Both consume pests, so take care not to squish them or move them to the compost bin accidentally. If you have an infestation, try removing the aphids with a blast of water from the hose (place a bucket below to catch them). That should work most of the time, but if they persist you can use Garlic Pepper Spray (recipes online) or a Neem Oil/Dr Bronner’s solution.

Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 to keep our environment safe and healthy for all: www.pesticide.org/creepycrawly SaveCreepyCrawlies Scared of snakes? Well have no fear, the garter snake is a creepy crawly that you should befriend! Garter snakes hunt for prey in your yard, garden or fields and eat up slugs, large insects and small rodents. They are nocturnal creatures, so at night when slugs are feasting on your plants garter snakes are also out hunting down slugs. They're not aggressive, won't make holes in your garden, and don't like to eat plants. Garter snakes in your garden are a good sign! gartersnake snake organicgardening

Composteira - Passo 2 Bom dia!
