Diastasis recti. Yes, I realize this is a picture of me hanging upside down and not of my abs but hear me out. Years ago I was strong. I worked out almost daily and it was incredible to feel so strong in my body. Then, I learned about a thing called diastasisrecti , a separation of the abdominal muscles often caused by pregnancy, and I was like “hey, I have that!” Had it been problematic to me in any way? No. But research told me to avoid all typical ab workouts since that can make it worse, and I decided I didn’t want that. So I set out to target that area with specific exercises to bring my abdominal walls back together. I got these exercises both from the internet and a physiotherapist. For a while I felt like I was making some progress, but in general even though I’ve been doing these things consistently for years, I still have a ‘2-3 finger gap’ between my abdominal walls. So, not only have I seen very little improvement in a problem that was never problematic for me to begin with, but I lost SO MUCH strength in my body overall since I have been so careful with my movements and it SUCKS. So, I’ve decided to say fuck it and continue to strengthen my body again and do the things I love. Please feel free to tell me if this is awful plan as long as you have reasoning behind it. I’m curious, do you have diastasis recti? Have you been able to lessen the gap with exercise? I am NOT interested in surgery.
