Damsons everywhere! There is so much hedgerow fruit about now, it could be an especially good year but then this time of year is always heaving with foragable produce. My advice freeze it and think about what to do with it later. Freezing actually helps break down the fruit so you get the most out of it when steeping in Gin or making wine. Gather, gather there's so much choice but make sure you save plenty for those creatures who rely on bounty to survive the winter ❄️🐿️

S M A L L C H A N G E S 👍🏻 It’s organicseptember and I wanted to tell you that making the change isn’t as hard or expensive as you might think. At risk of sounding preachy, eating organic is really important. It means you know what’s in your food. It helps protect British wildlife and the planet as a whole. It means higher animal welfare standards and not eating pesticides and artificial preservatives. I’ve written more about this on the blog - just search ‘organic’ on the blog and it’ll pop up. Make small changes where you can. We started with milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. Then we moved on to meat and now, we try to get other things too but it’s all about balance right? TBCo are a fabulous family owned and run independent business who design and make such beautiful natural and sustainable Scottish tartan blankets and other colsie companions. . I have been following them for a while now, dreaming of colsie times with their beautiful wool and colour combo blankets. Last week I reached out to them with an enquiry and it ended up in a fabulous local independent business swop. I am now the very proud owner of one of their gorgeous recycled wool picnic blankets which I can’t wait to use out and about, combining this with my seasonal bakes in the Autumnal hues of nature. Thank you so much for this Team TBCo. In return I created a seasonal bake to help them celebrate their 5th birthday! Such an honour to have been asked to bake something for them, a wonderful company with similar values to my own. . So I created a vanilla sponge, soaked in a pear and bay sugar syrup, filled with homemade damson jam and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. Covered in said buttercream. And adorned with organic edible flowers of amaranth, zinnias and sweet cicely foliage, caramelised pears, and a homemade vanilla biscuit royal iced and coloured purple using a blackberry powder mix. . So this was baked from scratch, using a mix of (hyper)local, seasonal, organic, fairtrade and homemade ingredients. My friend Claire Vos was confronted with the rare, progressive MSA brain disease. Claire is a talented artist and writer. Together we started the “Knappe Koppen” or "Handsome Heads" project. Denn das, was normalerweise als Tierfutter verfüttert wird, essen wir einfach selber. Für 1kg Rindfleisch sind laut Albert Schweizer Stiftung etwa 4-9kg Getreide nötig, das wir auch einfach so essen könnten. Dazu kommt, dass oft Soja in der Massentierhaltung verfüttert wird, für dessen Anbauflächen der Regenwald abgeholzt wird. Nein, nicht für den Tofu - für den wird in der Regel Soja aus Europa verwendet! Wasserverbrauch und CO2-Ausstoß sind darüber hinaus bei einer vegetarischen und veganen Ernährung auch wesentlich geringer. Vegan essen tut also sowohl dem Regenwald gut, als auch dem Klima. • Ich habe heute den ersten Spaghettikürbis aus dem Garten geerntet 😍, außerdem Zucchini und Brokkoli. Fläderbär är dessutom riktiga nyttighetsbomber. De är rika på C-vitaminer och betakaroten samt innehåller ämnen som motverkar och lindrar infektioner och är febernedsättande.
