Quick run over to wholefoods 🍌🥬🍫 We’ve been eating pretty decent here in Colorado and have both been within our daily/weekly point allowance BUT we’ve been slacking on the fruit and veggies. I decided to pick us up some green juice (I don’t count points for this. Never have. Never will.), a mixture of fruit (I don’t have a daily consumption limit.. Well.. i have had some seriously stressful days in my lifetime but this last week has been ... well trying to say the least. My diet has been all over the place and i’ve gone through not eating to binging. Reposted from macrolabnutrition - 🔥Upper body workouts🔥 by dancudes⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In an upper body workout, we are working the back, the chest, the shoulders, the traps, the arms, and even the core and this can be done in a strength-based workout or a hypertrophy-based workout. Now, I am an advocate of training in all rep ranges so you'll notice that the hypertrophy workout is more moderate in reps such as anywhere between 6-10. The strength workout on the other hand is more low in reps and focuses heavily on a 4-8 rep range though a lot of strength enthusiasts will actually dip lower and hit 3's and 2's for their reps which is awesome. Also notice how in the hypertrophy workout, we make small changes such as using dumbbells for our incline press whereas in the strength workout we are using a barbell. Not that you can't use both for both goals, but I find it is much easier to load a barbell with heavier weight and maintain proper form than using super heavy dumbbells for movements like the incline press and even rows. If you want to train and get all the benefits of it, you have to train in all rep ranges for all goals. So as most of you know I’ve been struggling with my diet for the last month or so. Now that December is here, it’s even harder. I decided last night that this year, I’m not stressing about it. Every December I beat myself up for all the junk I end up eating but not this year. • My goal for this month is to just enjoy myself, not stress. I am going to go to the gym 5x a week and just not worry too much about tracking but try to make good choices. • Come January I am also going to switch over to purple 💜 on WW and change things up a little bit. My husband took this photo of me yesterday making gingerbread cookies with our 3 year old son. My immediate reaction was disgust with myself. How is it possible that I still look *LIKE THAT* after all the work I’ve done this year?! Just as an avalanche of negative self-talk started in, I stopped and told my husband to send me the picture. You see, that picture is a woman who spent an entire day on her feet making homemade cookies with her kiddo because he’d been begging to make his own gingerbread men. 50+ pounds ago, I wouldn’t have had the stamina to do that. I would have bought pre-made cookies and frosting and called it a day. That’s not to say pre-made cookies are a bad thing...but the point was that my 3 year old wanted to mix up the dough and roll it out himself. That lady in that picture did that for her kid, and made some kick-ass memories in the process. What you see in the photo? THAT IS MY WHY. That’s what the tracking, and measuring, and water drinking is all about! It’s so I can inhabit a body that lets me comfortably be there for my family. So I can make memories with them. 🧩weightloss series : work with your body not against it.🧩 . You need to understand the way your body works so you can understand why you do the things you do. 🧩 . Your body is an ancient being. Think of it as a mystical creature you’re trying to understand. It has evolved for as long as mankind has been around. It’s sole objective is to keep you alive. It has gone through abundant times, famines, ice age, floods etc. each time it has evolved and the strongest has survived. It can adapt to pretty much any environmental situation and can extract energy, vitamins, minerals, water from pretty much anything created naturally. It is a machine! Think of it as a terminator machine that can’t be killed. 🧩 . This is your body. It talks to you via feelings, cravings, & ‘instinct’. You need to learn to listen to these messages. Some are very strong (like hunger) and some are more faint (like fullness). You need to be mindful while you are around food. Don’t allow distractions to sabotage you. 🧩 . To function optimally, you need to work with your body. You need to nourish it with whole foods that it can use. If the body gets stressed out (not enough food, junk food, stress, lack of sleep, lack of water etc) it is forced to use one of its many adaptations to ensure you stay alive for as long as possible. If you provide it what it needs, then it works optimally and doesn’t hold on or adapt. It thinks food is abundant & no tigers are attacking so it just functions at a nice rate 👍.🧩 . Food is energy, vitamins, minerals and water. If you don’t have enough, the body adapts and seems to ‘hold on’. If you have too much, it stores. If you have the right balance for what it needs, it functions optimally & lets go of what it doesn’t need. 🧩 . When it comes to food, the body wants routine & consistency. You want it to feel like there’s no shortage of food or stress. 🧩 . When it comes to exercise, you want change therefore you need to keep changing it up. If you do the same thing, your body will function optimally & it won’t change. 🧩 . Turkey salad 🥗 I’ve been shadowing doctors at a general practice for the last 4 weeks, and it’s been so draining!
